Some of the most common VACATION concerns people have now a days:
– No time – Cant find anyone to go with – No money – Scared to fly – Afraid of the risks –
My advice to them is to take a staycation. What is a staycation?
A staycation is a vacation spent in the town you life in rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions.
Over the last year, Elias and I have been taking plenty staycations. As you might know we just had a staycation at a Yacht in Bockholmen. It’s an Island in Stockholm we hadn’t even heard of. It’s pretty great what you can discover in your own backyard. It was just one Bus ride away!
There are several reasons to choose a staycation for your next getaway.
My top 7 reasons are:
It is Eco friendly meaning less carbon foot print.
You save Money, we all love a great bargain.
Know your heritage – After all, foreigners visit YOUR country too!
Your friends and family are likely to join you!
You start to appreciate your Hometown (the gras is not greener on the other side)
Support your local Economy
Up your tour guide game, you might wanna impress someone 😉

I always get the following question on my Instagram ;where should I stay? Can you recommend a Hotel? Since (Gamla Stan) is one of my favourite locations here in Stockholm , I figured it would be nice to find a really good hotel there. To my surprise, I realised that there aren’t that many hotels in Gamla Stan, well not as many as I assumed. I did some research and found The Lady Hamilton Hotel. I reached out to them and was pleasantly surprised when they offered me to stay for a night. It was better then I imagined, as I expected the vibe to be more “vintage-ish”, but it was pretty modern and fresh with a decor of classical furnitures. The bed was super cosy , it had a huge modern bathroom with a bathtub. We actually had 2 rooms, one for Elias and one for me, there is a sauna in the basement available to ones liking. The breakfast was great, there was something for everyone to enjoy! The carrot cake was amazing, my son couldn’t get enough, we had to get out of there before he ate it all 🙂
Thank you so much to The Lady Hamilton Hotel in Gamla Stan for a beautiful day! I will definitely come back!!!
If you’re visiting Stockholm check out their hotel, you won’t be disappointed 🙂
In Stockholm, it’s common to see dads with expensive strollers hanging out in the park, in tight jeans, just-right white shirts and a nice beard.
The boom of latte papas can not be attributed to a trend, the credit goes to Sweden’s generous family leave program as well as Swedish fathers adopting a hands on parenting model in which fathers get the chance bond with their babies. Each couple receives 480 days of paid parental leave for each child, which can be taken up until the child turns eight. Most of those days can be shared between the parents.
Let’s go to the definition of the word: Latte Pappa
– a humorous term for a Scandinavian father
The result? Head to any Swedish cafe during the week and you’ll come across the country’s notorious ‘latte pappas’ enjoying a coffee break, before heading to the park with their kids o strolling around town for some shopping
Coming from a more traditional part of Germany, I can say every child needs a “Latte Pappa” – during the early years of their life.
Children with involved dads generally do better in life not to mention are less likely to break the law or drop out of school.
When fathers are actively part of their children life , children do better – that’s a fact!
Next time you see a so called “Latte Pappa” just know, drinking that coffee is part of him being a great dad.
The way that kids play in nature has a lot less structure than most types of indoor play. There are infinite ways to interact with outdoor environments, from the backyard to the park to the local hiking trail or lake, and letting your child choose how he treats nature means he has the power to control his own actions.
It promotes creativity and imagination.
This unstructured style of play also allows kids to interact meaningfully with their surroundings. They can think more freely, design their own activities, and approach the world in inventive ways.
It teaches responsibility.
Living things die if mistreated or not taken care of properly, and entrusting a child to take care of the living parts of their environment means they’ll learn what happens when they forget to water a plant, or pull a flower out by its roots.
It provides different stimulation.
Nature may seem less stimulating than your son’s violent video game, but in reality, it activates more senses—you can see, hear, smell, and touch outdoor environments. As the young spend less and less of their lives in natural surroundings, their senses narrow and this reduces the richness of human experience.
It gets kids moving.
Most ways of interacting with nature involve more exercise than sitting on the couch. Your kid doesn’t have to be joining the local soccer team or riding a bike through the park—even a walk will get her blood pumping. Not only is exercise good for kids’ bodies, but it seems to make them more focused, which is especially beneficial for kids with ADHD.
It makes them think.
Nature creates a unique sense of wonder for kids that no other environment can provide. The phenomena that occur naturally in backyards and parks everyday make kids ask questions about the earth and the life that it supports.
It reduces stress and fatigue.
According to the Attention Restoration Theory, urban environments require what’s called directed attention, which forces us to ignore distractions and exhausts our brains. In natural environments, we practice an effortless type of attention known as soft fascination that creates feelings of pleasure, not fatigue.
Akalla 4H-Gård is located in beautiful 19th century Akalla. The village borders the nature reserve Järvafältet.
Akalla 4H offers free admission, the animals are seen every day at 8.30-16.00 clock in their fields.
The animals are on their fields every day of the year. Akalla also has a 4H farm. Café, pottery workshop, mini golf course, playground, barbecue area, paddling pool and an outdoor gym (which I often use in my training videos).
In Akalla 4H there are horses, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, rabbits and cats. Lambs and kittens are born in spring.
The work to conserve Swedish landraces is extremely important, as many animals in Sweden are threatened with extinction.
To spend more time with the animals, you can book guided tours.
Pony riding: takes place every sunday from 1pm to 2pm.
Meals are provided, in the café there are a lot of delicacies. To save money, there is a Lidl around the corner where you can do the same shopping.
So if you have already seen Skansen and want to save a some money, just drive by.
