Winter is coming…

Sometimes I wonder if I’m the only person who contemplates the idea of moving to a warm country every year as summer comes to an end. This thought has been a reacuring scenario in the past decade of my life.

As summer comes to an end I feel a part of the warmt in our personality goes with it. The icy cold weather and the darkness bring out the sadness hidden deep in our soul to the surface, making us into zombies in battle to survive the cold and darkness that shackle us to melancholy.

If you live as up north as me (Scandinavia) creating cosy moments in everyday situation will be the strategy or distraction to get you through the darkness winter covers us with. The Danish call this hygge which means creating an atmosphere of wellness, contentment and cosyness in everyday situation.

The Swedes have mastered this, and I have become accustomed to it now, and I wonder how I ever survived any winter without fika or just creating cosy moments.

German Church – Gamla Stan

Hi friends,

As the summer nears it end, I can’t help but reflect on this summer and all the nice times I’ve had in Stockholm. I can honestly say I’ve had one of the best summer’s ever. I enjoy the simple things in life nowadays, the other day I took my kids out for some ice cream in old town (Gamla Stan) and walked around just being in the moment. Life with kids can be hectic and its nice to take time out to just be present, we often get lost in the high speed of life chasing it all, trying to be it all. Exhausting ourselves, not having enough energy left to enjoy our kids endless love and desire for our attention. Parenting is the hardest job you will ever do, and being more present is where is at😊 . đŸŽ© off to all the parents

5 Differences between Germans and Swedes – funny –

Hey friends, i was thinking of creating a fun fact article and i hope you all like it! =)

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset
Drinking
Germans can have a beer for lunch & a glass of wine after Diner. Many of us have one (or more) beer every day. Coming from Bavaria i grew up drinking Radler (a beer mixed with a soft drink) from the age of 12 at special occasions.
Prost!
Swedes think kind this is alcoholism. Which is why they drink almost nothing during the week, but do their best to catch up on during the weekends. Let’s keep it short: Swedes are like a bottle of vodka: from the outside they look unexcited, calm, pure like water, colorless. But once they open up

you will probably detect a slight smell of alcohol.
SkÄl!

Bortzeit – Smorging
Germans use a “normal” knife to spread butter on a slice of bread. In Germany, bread is more than just food – it is a part of the German culture we have 300 different bread varieties.
Swedes have come up with a genius idea. They invented the smörkniv, a wooden butter knife, whose sole purpose is to spread butter on things. Loving their Crisp bread -KnĂ€ckebröd – it is served at breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Football
Germans are very proud of our world cup wins in 1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014.
Swedes can talk for hours about the friendly match vs. England in 2012 and the outrageous Zlatan Ibrahimovic overhead kick from 35 yards.

Swedes are peaceful
Germans lets just say we have contributed to the last few wars the world has seen.
Swedes live in peace for more than 200 years. They stayed in their red wooden houses, thinking, “njÀÀ, let the others do.”

Aspirin and co.
Germans work even if they are sick. We take two Aspirin and carry on. If we really get sick, we go to see a Doctor (Yes in Germany you can see a Doctor whenever YOU want)
Swedes panic when they hear someone sneezing. They take Alvedon or Ipren whenever they (believe they) have any kind of illness. This is mostly due to the fact, that if they call a Doctor, a nurse will answer and say: “If Alvedon or Ipren didn’t help, please call us again in four weeks
”

How to have the greatest 24 hours in Stockholm

Experience Stockholm in 24 hours

Upplev Stockholm i 24 timmar

Many of you have asked me: I am going to be in Stockholm for one day, what do you recommend me to do ? while there are plenty of beautiful places to visit and nice activities to do in Stockholm. I figured, I have to create – how to have an amazing 24 hours in Stockholm guide.

Brunch – To get the most out of your day, start the day of with a great breakfast/brunch in the city centre, for that I recommend Greasy spoon located in Odenplan, which is also one of my favorite brunch places in Stockholm. Its a British/ American style breakfast/brunch spot, they offer weekly specials and the last time I was there, I had the Mexican special roasted vegetables topped with guacamole and 2 poached eggs served with spicy suace. When I’m craving something more sweet, I usually go for their home made French toasts served with nuts, berries topped of with mable syrup

From there you can take a lovely walk trough town heading towards (Slussen) continuing your journey by fetching a boat towards DjurgĂ„rden. Discover the island DjurgĂ„rden, beloved by both stockholmers and visitors. It is the home of many of the city’s museums and cultural attractions such as (Vasa Museum, Gröna Lund, The Abba museum and Skansen which is Europe’s biggest outdoor zoo to name a few).

Lunch – since you’re still in DjurgĂ„rden take a short walk to Josefina restaurant/Bar, they have amazing pizzas and if the weather is right, why not lounge at the poolside. Tired? Just take a nap at lounge area suited for relaxing, have a bevarage and put your feet up after all that walking and sightseeing.

After your recovery, continue your adventure by catching the boat, this time get off at the stop called (Riddarholmen) here in (Kungsholmen) you can visit stockholms iconic Stadshus and meanwhile have a (Fika) coffee and something sweet for a bite right next to the water with a beautiful view over Stockholm.

Dinner – From Riddarholmen catch the last boat of the day and get off at slussen, there you can take a short 10 min walk to Gamla Stan (Old Town) By now you have probably worked up an appetite and if you don’t want to look around for a place to dine, I highly recommend Mister French, a restaurant that specialises in French cuisine such seafood, fish, and steak and best of all, it has 1920 Great Gatsby vibe with stunning outdoor sea view over town.

6 must haves for new Dad’s

Hejsan & Hello!

Here’s a list I wrote on essential baby items I couldn’t live without as a father of three. I hope they are useful in navigating this new exciting life that you will embark on.

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

1.Car Seat This is an essential item for your baby. Anytime you are in a car, the baby needs to be securely fastened in a car seat. The seat must be appropriately sized for your baby and must work in your car. Not all car seats are created equal. You may want to consider a seat that has a base that is left in the car with a detachable seat for the baby that you can easily carry around. But no baby can safely be without a car seat if you plan to move about in a car. Find one that suits you and your family.

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset
2.Digital/Video Camera: Just about every father and many mothers I know wants a good digital camera to record those vital moments in their baby’s development, or just to post pictures of the cutest baby ever. Having a good digital camera with a lot of storage space or room for a high capacity memory card is a great investment.

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

3. Diaper Bag: A good quality diaper bag with all the important contents for the baby is an absolutely essential part of the baby’s kamera stuff. It will be the one item you will be seen carrying😊 therefore I chose a simple comfortable one that I can also fit my books and a laptop in.

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset
4.Burp Cloths: Another big surprise I had as a new father was how much our baby spit up. A ready supply of burp cloth is important for dads and babies which you can purchase in most baby supply stores. Don’t even bother getting dressed up, without one at hand.

Bilbarnstol

5.Stroller: It is overwhelming experince to become father for the first time and its easy for a new dad to feel trapped at home with the new bor. It comes as no surprise that your mobility is effected . A good quality stroller, with handles long enough that you can walk without bending over all the time, is an important item. Particularly if you are on the tall side of the spectrum. And getting one that will serve you and your baby as she or he grows makes the relatively large investment a little easier to digest.

6.Rash cream – Apricot oil: As a father of three children, it’s safe to say I have tried many rash lotion/creams/ balm. Many of them were not bad as far as soothing the rash and improving it. But almost all of the ones I used where made with a lot of ingredients that are not safe or good in the long run. I was given by my cousing Desse Apricot oil a couple of years ago and it has been a game changers ever since. This product is not only great for diaper rash but all types of cuts. It is a healing balm that can be used to hydrate the skin, cracked lips. Every time I have used when one of my kids had a rash, it gave instant results of improvement. And the best of all it’s made of apricot oil and its all natural.

Det finns ett citat som verkligen resonera hos mig och det lyder: “Dead people receive more flowers than the living, because regret is stronger than gratitude”.

Hi friends

This week, my family came to visit us. We all have been looking forward and now they are finally here. This time my mom (grandmother) and my two sisters came. We went to Gröna lund and got on boat from slussen to DjurgĂ„rden. We had a wonderful day, we spend more quality time now then when I lived in Germany. I think it’s because you take everything for granted when you live so close to each other. Now that we live in different countries, we really appreciate the time we have together . One’s family is one of the things we take for granted, as a result, we end up appreciating each other way too little. There is a quote that really resonated with me. It states: “Dead people receive more flowers than the living, because regret is stronger than gratitude”. Do you realize how insane that is? It is sad that we show little appreciation to our loved ones. How amazing would it be if one showed up on a Monday with flowers to one’s mother, dad or sibling just to show their appreciation and love for them. More love and appreciation, because no one ever said no to that 🙂

Hi dear friends!

The other day me and the children went to Brunnsviken’s garden located in Ulriksdals. It was quite easy to get here and the weather was perfect for picking vegetables, berries and fruits. The kids got each a basket and picked everything they could find in the garden, it was truly an amazing experience. I am totally fond of all child-friendly activities you can find in Stockholm. As an expat (foreign resident) German father to 3 wonderful children, I have wanted to discover Stockholm and at the same time find fun places for my children to discover. In this blog you can get to know me more and i hope to inspire parents to try some of all the crazy things we get up to.😁😁😁

We spent the day in Akalla by (farm), this place takes you back in time.  The red wooden houses bring  so much character to the area. There is a playground, paddling pool, 4H farm with animals, (pony riding for kids) a cafĂ©, a barbecue area, a dance floor, a mini-golf course and bicycles to rent (including children’s bicycles and trailers). There is a complete outdoor gym. There are so many activities here for everyone, most importantly it’s child friendly.  I have been here before but this time we came for the pony riding. Unfortunately we came too late and ended up missing it, so we spent the day in the farm interacting with the animals. We ended the day in Bibbi house,  a lebanese/moroccan restaurant.  If you want to walk from Akalla by (farm) to Bibbi house , it’s possible, but a you’re in for a long walk. Ones there it is worth the walk, they have an amazing outdoor seating area and the food is great.

Enjoy your day

Until next time

Welcome back friends,

I  came a across this lovely place in Kungsholmen a couple of days ago when we went there for a swim. I decided to come back here someday, that day has come haha.  I don’t really know how to describe it, its a floating garden that serves food and drinks 🙂  they have a deck where you you can dive off and swim, come back and continue dining haha, sounds confusing, but it’s not,  it was simply built convenient and magical.  It’s called MĂ€larpaviljongen and it’s located in kungsholmen. If you are planning to visit, the easiest route would be getting off the train at Fridhemsplan in the blue line.. I ordered Wallenbergare (meat) with mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce and I got their caesar salad, which I assumed came with grilled chicken, I found out it can be served with anything. The caesar salad came with prawns, it was fresh and simple, I liked it. I took the kids for a swim afterwards to cool down from the heat and got wet in the process 🙂 We ended the day with some (fika) Alcohol free beer for me and some ice cream for my kids at the pier. City hall (stadshuset) is located here, it has a beautiful garden to sit and relax in and a prefect place to take some pictures with amazing view over Stockholm. There is so much to discovered here, the pier is stacked with so many restaurants and ice creams places to choose from, you can catch a boat from here to other islands around Stockholm, start your journey, discover Stockholm your way and have fun doing it.

Enjoy your view

until next time.

Welcome back friends,

Today was no ordinary day, the temperature here in stockholm reached 31 celsius, and I am not complaining because I enjoy hot, sunny days.  However it was one of the hotter days of the year, which Stockholm has been having plenty of lately.  We wanted to spend the day relaxing  at a poolside, eating, and doing pretty much nothing. We got off the train at kungstradgarden, the end station for the blue line, walked to slussen where we got on a boat heading towards Djurgarden. My kids loved the boat ride and i enjoyed it too, i truly recommend anyone wanting to visit Djurgarden to catch the boat, its an adventure you will remember. The scenery was amazing. Ones in Djurgarden, we went to this place called Josefina, its a Bar/ poolside/ restaurant type of place but its lovely and kids friendly too. We sat at the poolside, swam and ordered pizza. My kids asked me are we coming back tomorrow? We have to come back tomorrow again 🙂 Lets just say they had a great time.

Hope you had just as great day 🙂

Until next time
